Managed IT and system administration

Supporting a multi-site education provider's IT environment

Infrastructure, system administration and day-to-day technical support across an education provider operating in two countries, where the awkward problems were the ones that crossed systems.

The situation

WTU runs an IT environment spanning multiple systems and a substantial user base across more than one location. They needed operational support as part of a managed service rather than a break-fix arrangement.

The difficulty was rarely a single broken thing. Problems that touch several systems at once cannot be closed by one quick fix — they need investigation and coordination across the environment before the real cause becomes visible.

What we did

  1. 1Took on infrastructure support across the estate rather than isolated components.
  2. 2Provided day-to-day technical support to users as issues arose.
  3. 3Handled system administration for the platforms the organisation depends on.
  4. 4Investigated multi-system problems end to end instead of closing them at the first plausible cause.
  5. 5Coordinated across systems and parties where a fix needed more than one change to hold.

The outcome

  • Day-to-day technical issues were investigated and resolved rather than accumulating.
  • The client describes the approach as hands-on, with ownership taken for problems.
  • Teaching staff were able to concentrate on students rather than on IT faults.
John supported WTU as part of our MSP environment, helping with IT infrastructure, technical support, system administration, and ongoing operational requirements. The challenging part was supporting a business environment with multiple systems and users while dealing with technical issues as they arose. Some problems required deeper troubleshooting and coordination rather than straightforward fixes. John was able to investigate these issues, identify practical solutions, and support the environment through day-to-day technical challenges. His hands-on approach and willingness to take ownership of problems made him a valuable part of our IT support.
