Doesn't Microsoft keep deleted items?
For a limited window, and recoverable-items retention can itself be purged by an attacker with administrative access. It is a convenience feature, not a backup.
How long can we retain data?
Retention is policy-driven and can be set from months to indefinite, including legal hold for specific mailboxes or sites.
