Protection without on-site hardware
The traditional backup design assumes an office: a local appliance that machines back up to quickly, which then replicates to the cloud overnight. That model works well when everyone is in the building and stops working well when they are not.
Direct-to-Cloud removes the appliance. Each laptop, workstation or server protects itself straight to cloud storage over whatever internet connection it has, wherever it happens to be. A laptop that has not been in the office for six months is still protected.
It also removes a category of cost and risk that organisations tend to underestimate: hardware that has to be bought, racked, patched, monitored, and replaced every few years, and which is itself sitting in the building that a fire or flood would destroy.

- Will this saturate our internet connection?
- The first full backup is the heaviest and can be scheduled or seeded. After that, only changed blocks transfer, which is typically a small daily volume. Bandwidth caps and schedules are configurable per device group.
- How fast is recovery without a local copy?
- Single-file recovery is quick. Full-machine recovery over the internet is slower than from local storage, which is why we often pair this with a local cache for servers while using pure direct-to-cloud for laptops.
